
The Independent National Election Commission, INEC, has declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Aiyedatiwa, who contested the election on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, won by landslide, beating his closest challenger by nearly 250,000 votes.
The result confirms Naija Daily News’ projection in the early hours of Sunday that the APC candidate would win a landslide victory.
In one of the most convincing victories in Nigeria’s election, the winner had a clean sweep of all LGAs in the state, winning more 75 per cent of the total votes.

The result, announced by the collation officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi, VC Federal University, Lokoja, at INEC state headquarters, Alagbaka, Akure, showed that Aiyedatiwa polled 366, 781 to defeat his closet rival, Hon Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party who got 117,845.
The Labour Party (LP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) polled 1,162 and 2,692 votes, respectively.
