A father of nine children has reportedly taken his own life in Egbokodo Community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, after hearing that his estranged wife and mother of his nine children had concluded plans to remarry.

NDN learnt that the unfortunate incident occurred at midday on Monday, October 7, but there were uncertainties over the circumstances of his death.

The deceased, identified as Charles was a native of Jeddo town.

“The man took his own life because he heard that his wife who he had abandoned after nine children had fallen in love with another man, with whom she was planning to tie the knot.

“When he heard the report of his former wife’s relationship with the suitor and her alleged plan to remarry, Charles began a frantic shuttle to scuttle the relationship and reconcile with the woman.

“The woman was unwavering in her refusal to return to Charles, who left alone her to fend for the children they had together. She told him that she had given her words and commitment to her fiance who had helped weather the storm,” our source said.

Frustrated by his failed bid to win back the mother of his children, the deceased reportedly told friends that he would rather not be alive to watch his former wife get married to another man.

One of his neighbour at the Redeemer’s Church compound in Egbokodo said the defected man went into his room at about midday and took a substance suspected to be Sniper insecticide.

“A few minutes after he went indoors, he came out shouting that he had ingested sniper”.

Although the Delta State Police Command has yet to comment on the report, it was learnt that Charles’ corpse had been deposited in the morgue of a private hospital in the area.

Meanwhile, a fresh twist unfolded in the tragic incident on Monday night, following revelations that after the deceased ingested the poison at his residence in Jeddo, he proceeded to his in-law’s home in Ugbokodo, where he succumbed to the effects around 3:30 PM.

There was consensus that the father of nine had been involved in arguments with his wife before the incident. Sources claim he pleaded with her not to leave him, but she allegedly refused his requests.

Until his death, the late Charles was known in the community as a member of the local vigilante group, and his untimely death has sent shock-waves through the area. Friends and neighbours are struggling to comprehend the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
