President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that the ongoing reforms are essential for the country’s future, emphasizing that while the decisions may be tough, they are necessary to place Nigeria on a solid path towards development and growth.

Tinubu highlighted that his administration initiated sweeping economic reforms to halt the “business-as-usual” mentality and prevent national decline.

He further emphasised that reforms within the nation’s defence framework aimed to tackle insecurity and defeat terrorism effectively.

Despite the numerous challenges Nigeria has faced, the President expressed confidence in the nation’s resilience, stating that it remains strong, united, and viable. He also pointed out that the country’s Independence Day celebrations provide a moment to reflect on its progress and renew commitments to building a better future for both current and upcoming generations.

In a bid to engage with the youth, President Tinubu announced plans to organize a National Youth Conference to focus on key areas such as education, employment, and development. While the specifics of the conference are still being finalized, it is expected to last 30 days. He urged young Nigerians to participate actively, as their involvement is crucial for shaping the future of the nation.

Addressing economic challenges, Tinubu explained that his administration inherited significant issues, including impaired security and an economy under pressure. Faced with a critical decision between reform and collapse, his administration chose the path of reform to stabilize both the political economy and defense systems.

The President noted that the economic reforms have already attracted over $30 billion in foreign direct investment over the past year. The Central Bank’s new approach to monetary policy has helped bring stability to the foreign exchange market. He cited financial successes, such as reducing the country’s debt service ratio and maintaining foreign reserves at $37 billion, despite clearing significant inherited debts.

While acknowledging the hardships faced by Nigerians, especially with rising costs of living and food prices, Tinubu reassured citizens that his government is implementing measures to ease these burdens. He commended governors who have embraced agricultural production programs and urged more states to invest in mechanized farming to further boost food production.

The President also announced the conferment of high national honors on key government figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

In closing, President Tinubu called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient, expressing his belief in the nation’s ability to rise above current difficulties. He urged citizens to support the administration’s efforts to create a prosperous Nigeria where everyone has access to opportunities and a brighter future for the next generation.
