A man arrested in Adamawa State over alleged motorcycle theft has been re-arrested for allegedly stealing N278,000 and a mobile phone belonging to a female police officer while in custody.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Isah, a resident of Mubi, was initially arrested over allegations that he stole a motorcycle belonging to a member of the public.
However, he allegedly committed another theft while being held by the police, stealing a bag belonging to a female police exhibit keeper containing her mobile phone and N278,000 in cash.
Police operatives subsequently re-arrested Isah and recovered the stolen phone and money.
The suspect was later arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 2 in Jimeta, Yola, where Magistrate Zainab Buba ordered that he be remanded in prison custody.
During the court proceedings, the police prosecutor, Inspector Umar Abdullahi, requested an adjournment to enable the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The court adjourned the case for further proceedings.
