A 46-year-old woman in Florida, Christina Clemens, and her 22-year-old son, Shane Clemens, have been arrested and charged with incest after deputies investigating a domestic dispute allegedly uncovered a sexual relationship between the pair.
The incident came to light in Lakeland, Polk County, southwest of Orlando, after Christina contacted authorities for assistance during a domestic altercation involving her son.
According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, deputies responded to the scene and arrested Shane after Christina alleged that he had struck her during the dispute.
However, investigators said the case took a more serious turn after Shane allegedly became angry over his arrest and disclosed that he and his mother had been engaged in a sexual relationship since he turned 18.
Judd said detectives subsequently questioned Christina about Shane’s allegation and asked whether she had engaged in sexual activity with her son since he became an adult.
According to the sheriff, Christina admitted to the relationship and allegedly told investigators it had happened “only about 100 times.”
Detectives also questioned Christina’s husband, who was reportedly unaware of the alleged relationship between his wife and son.
The husband told investigators that he had not known the two were sexually involved, although he reportedly found it suspicious that Christina and Shane would sometimes enter the master bedroom and lock the door.
Following the investigation, both Christina and Shane were charged with incest. Christina also faces an additional charge of adultery.
Authorities have not indicated whether further charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
