The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has revealed that he received a briefing alleging that some criminal suspects being sought by the police are being sheltered at the Osun State Government House.
Disu disclosed on Friday during a meeting with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, at the Government House in Osogbo.
Speaking during the meeting, the IGP said he had received complaints suggesting that Governor Adeleke and some individuals were dissatisfied with the performance of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
According to him, he had been informed of concerns over the commissioner’s handling of security matters in the state but noted that the police chief had also presented his own account.
Disu said the Commissioner of Police informed him that some suspects wanted by the police were allegedly taking refuge within the Government House.
“He briefed me that some suspects he is looking for are hibernating in the Government House. I looked at that. If that is true, why should suspects be in the Government House?” the IGP said.
He added that he had advised the commissioner on the appropriate steps to take in investigating the allegations.
The police chief also stated that he had received reports alleging that members of different political groups were shielding criminal suspects.
“I have heard that this party and that party are hibernating suspects, criminals,” he said.
Disu, however, did not identify the suspects or provide further details to substantiate the allegations during the meeting.
