The Federal Government has congratulated 16-year-old Osasere Okundaye for making history as Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant after successfully qualifying through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, described the remarkable feat as a testament to hard work, discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
“I heartily congratulate Miss Osasere Okundaye on her outstanding achievement of becoming Nigeria’s youngest Chartered Accountant at just 16 years of age,” the minister said.
Olawande noted that Okundaye’s success reflects the immense potential of Nigerian youths and should inspire others to remain focused and determined in pursuing their dreams.
He said the teenager had become a shining example of what young Nigerians can achieve with dedication, perseverance, and the right support, adding that her accomplishment demonstrates that age is no barrier to excellence.
The minister also commended her parents, teachers, and mentors for providing the guidance and encouragement that contributed to her success.
Reaffirming the Federal Ministry of Youth Development’s commitment to empowering young people, Olawande said the government would continue to implement policies and programmes that enable Nigerian youths to realise their full potential.
According to him, Okundaye’s achievement reinforces confidence in the country’s future, which he said rests in the hands of talented and determined young citizens.
Okundaye earned the historic milestone after completing the rigorous ICAN professional examinations, setting a new national record as the youngest person in Nigeria to attain the prestigious certification.
Her achievement surpasses the previous record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who became Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at the age of 17.
The ICAN qualification is widely regarded as one of the country’s most demanding professional certifications, requiring candidates to pass a series of challenging examinations before attaining chartered accountant status.
