Suspected terrorists have attacked Tsamiya town in Kebbi State, abducting a resident and destroying several properties during a late-night raid on Saturday.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying security operatives had been deployed to the area to restore order and pursue the attackers.
According to the police, the assailants stormed the community late on Saturday, firing sporadically and setting several structures ablaze. Among the properties destroyed were a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), a local brothel, and the residence of a community member identified as Sule Mai Goge.
The attackers also abducted a resident, Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare, before fleeing the area.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical personnel to the affected community following reports of the attack.
“The Kebbi State Police Command has deployed tactical personnel to Tsamiya Town following an attack by suspected terrorists in the late hours of June 20, 2026,” Usman stated.
He explained that security agencies responded swiftly to the incident and reinforced security presence in the area to protect lives and property.
Usman disclosed that a full-scale investigation had commenced, while efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
“A comprehensive investigation into the incident has since commenced, and efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim and track the perpetrators are ongoing,” he said.
The police assured residents of Tsamiya and neighbouring communities that security operations would be sustained until normalcy is fully restored.
The command also urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing security efforts by providing credible information that could aid investigations and rescue operations.
Authorities said further updates would be provided as the investigations progress.
