The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old security guard attached to an Islamiyya school in Jega Local Government Area for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, announced the arrest during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Faruku Muhammed of Tungar Zabarmawa in Jega, was apprehended following a complaint involving the minor, who is from the same community.

Hadejia said the incident allegedly occurred on June 14, 2026, when the suspect lured the girl into his room within the premises of the Islamiyya school where he worked as a security guard.

“On June 14, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., one Faruku Muhammed, aged 36, allegedly lured a 10-year-old girl into his room located inside an Islamiyya school where he works as a security guard,” the police commissioner stated.

He disclosed that the matter is currently under investigation and assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution if found culpable.

“The case is under investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly,” Hadejia said.

The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from abuse and exploitation. It urged parents and guardians to promptly report cases of child abuse and related offences to law enforcement agencies.

Hadejia also appealed to residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.

The command further assured the public that reports involving child abuse and other criminal offences would be treated with the seriousness they deserve.
