Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has obtained the nomination form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the National Democratic Congress.

Abdulaziz is seeking to represent the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State ahead of the next general election.

His decision has stirred political discussions in the state, particularly because of his longstanding loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, despite his father’s prominent role in the APC over the years.

A viral video circulating online showed Abdulaziz in a meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the nomination form, where he was said to have briefed the former governor on his political ambition and preparedness for the contest.

The development marks another twist in the prolonged political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, two influential political figures whose alliance collapsed years ago after dominating Kano politics together.

Although his father remained one of the APC’s most powerful figures, Abdulaziz has consistently distanced himself from the APC camp and openly identified with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

His political differences with the family also became public following a controversial dispute involving his mother, Professor Hafsat Umar Ganduje, whom he once petitioned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged failed agreement.

Abdulaziz is now aiming for the same House of Representatives seat contested by his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, during the 2023 elections under the APC platform.

Umar, however, lost the election to a candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party despite the political influence of his father, who was serving as Kano State governor at the time.
