A Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Iheamama, to 12 years’ imprisonment for trafficking two minors for exploitation.

The victims, identified as 15-year-old Bright Edim and Mary Ekong, were reportedly being transported to Ghana for prostitution before the suspect was arrested.

According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Iheamama was prosecuted on a three-count charge bordering on child trafficking after his arrest in the Agbara area of Ogun State on April 12, 2025.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ogun State Commander of NAPTIP, Bose Jimoh, disclosed that officers of the Nigeria Police Force intercepted the convict while he was moving the victims towards Badagry for onward trafficking to Ghana.

She explained that the matter was later transferred to the Ogun State command of NAPTIP for further investigation and prosecution.

Jimoh stated that the defendant was arraigned before Justice A. A. Okeke of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, on June 18, 2025, while the trial commenced on October 15, 2025.

She added that judgment was delivered on May 20, 2026, with the court finding the defendant guilty on all counts.

According to the statement, the court sentenced Iheamama to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of N250,000 on count one, five years’ imprisonment and a N500,000 fine on count two, and another five years’ imprisonment on count three.

The court ordered that all the sentences should run concurrently.

NAPTIP said the offences contravened Sections 13, 15(b), and 26(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
