The Nigeria Democratic Congress has zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term.
The decision was reached at the maiden national convention of the party, where delegates unanimously adopted the motion during proceedings.
The motion was moved by Afam Victor Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the 10th National Assembly.
Delegates also resolved that after the completion of the four-year single term, the party’s presidential ticket would automatically be zoned to Northern Nigeria.
The development is expected to open the way for former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as well as other southern aspirants, to contest for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
More details are expected as the convention continues.
