President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of key appointments across major education institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.

According to the announcement, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while the incumbent Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will remain in office.

For NBTE, the President named Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman, alongside the earlier reappointment of the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term approved on April 10.

In Plateau State, Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, succeeding the pioneer Rector, Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026. Binfa’s appointment is for a single term of five years and follows a selection process initiated through a public advertisement in September 2025.

Meanwhile, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has had her tenure renewed as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. She was first appointed in September 2021.

Professor Adelabu, a retired academic from Obafemi Awolowo University, previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014 and also chaired NBTE from 2018 to 2021.

Professor Salako, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), is widely recognised for his contributions to research development, institutional governance, and international collaboration during his tenure from 2016 to 2024.

Dr Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny. He has also lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

Since assuming office, Professor Anunobi has led reforms aimed at transforming the National Library into a technology-driven institution. Her initiatives include the development of the National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, and the National Virtual Library.

A statement from the presidency noted that the renewal of Anunobi’s tenure is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, facilitate the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja, and support the implementation of the institution’s 2025–2030 strategic plan.
