The Delta State Police Command has intercepted hard drugs concealed inside energy-saving bulbs and recovered a firearm connected to a murder and cultism investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime through intelligence-led policing in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol made the drug interception on April 13, 2026, at about 8:45 a.m. along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road, where they stopped a Sienna bus conveying passengers to northern Nigeria.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of illicit substances concealed inside electric bulbs. The police said the recovered exhibits included 490 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine and 4 grams of cannabis, commonly known as “loud.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment was destined for Abuja, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected drug trafficking network.

In a related operation the same day, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, recovered a pump-action gun loaded with three live cartridges in the Ekiugbo area of Ughelli.

Police authorities linked the firearm to an ongoing investigation into conspiracy, cultism, and murder, specifically the killing of Alex Adanike, the younger brother of the Ovie of Ughelli, which occurred on January 15.

The police spokesperson disclosed that a suspect, identified as Eddy Onose, who remains at large, was believed to have had the weapon before abandoning it upon noticing police surveillance.

He added that the suspect is allegedly a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as Aro Bagger, as investigations continue.
