The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media which alleged an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, in a statement issued on Friday, described the claim as “entirely false, misleading, and malicious,” stressing that no such incident occurred in the nation’s capital.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the video was deliberately fabricated using misleading footage sourced from online platforms to create panic and undermine public confidence in the country’s security architecture.

Placid disclosed that operatives of the Force had arrested one Pam Joseph in connection with the creation and dissemination of the false content. He said the arrest followed credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations linking the suspect to the origin and spread of the video.

He warned that while citizens have the right to freedom of expression, such rights do not include spreading misinformation capable of threatening public peace and national security.

The police spokesperson urged members of the public to verify information before sharing and to avoid actions that could incite fear or disorder.

He added that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public order and national security, noting that it will continue to monitor digital platforms and take decisive action against individuals involved in the spread of false or misleading information.
