Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said his decision to seek re-election is driven by the need to complete ongoing projects and fulfil his administration’s development agenda.

The governor stated that he would not have considered a second term if he had accomplished all the objectives he set at the beginning of his tenure.

Otti made the remarks at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, during a 10,000-man solidarity march organised by stakeholders in the area. The rally was convened by Dannie Ubani.

According to the governor, significant work remains to be done in transforming the state, making his re-election bid necessary. He stressed that completing his administration’s mission remains a priority.

“If I had finished the work that I came to do, I wouldn’t be seeking a second term,” Otti said, adding that the government still has critical projects to execute.

While acknowledging the importance of opposition in a democratic system, the governor criticised some opposition figures, accusing them of engaging in what he described as “politics of witchcraft.” He also dismissed threats from what he termed “insignificant opposition elements,” saying they do not represent a substantial portion of the state.

Otti maintained that constructive criticism should focus on evaluating the achievements of his administration and offering alternative solutions, rather than denying visible progress.

He expressed appreciation to supporters, particularly the rally’s convener, Ubani, for organising the demonstration of solidarity.

In his remarks, Ubani said the rally was aimed at showcasing the governor’s achievements and reaffirming support for his re-election bid in 2027, pledging continued backing for Otti’s administration.
