Police in Nasarawa State have rescued a three-day-old baby who was abducted from her mother’s home in Unguwan Bako area of Orange Market, Mararaba, and arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
The baby’s mother, 19-year-old Aisha Bada, said two men forced their way into her room while she was asleep with the child. “I was asleep when I heard a loud knock on my door. Before I could react, two hefty men forced their way in. One grabbed my neck and covered my mouth, while the other took my baby and ran away,” she said, adding that she struggled to raise an alarm but could not get immediate help.
Community leader Abubakar Yusuf Mai Anguwa Baƙo confirmed the abduction and said the matter was promptly reported to the police.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel said the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered an immediate investigation, leading to the arrest of two suspects — Furera Abdulrahman, 35, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39 — in the early hours of April 3.
“The suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence, and the abducted baby was found in their possession,” Nansel said, adding that they had confessed to the crime and named another accomplice who remains at large.
The baby was taken to the Mararaba Medical Centre for examination and was certified to be in good health before being reunited with the parents, police said.
Authorities said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation, while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The Nasarawa State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
