A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has fixed April 14, 2026, to deliver its ruling on the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

At proceedings on Wednesday, both the defence and prosecution presented their final arguments on the bail request. Counsel to El-Rufai, Iyamu Oyewole, argued that bail is a constitutional right, maintaining that his client has strong ties within the country and is unlikely to abscond.

The prosecution, however, opposed the application, expressing concerns that the former governor could influence witnesses or interfere with ongoing investigations if granted bail.

After hearing both sides, the presiding judge, Rilwan Aikawa, adjourned the matter and announced that a ruling would be delivered on April 14, 2026.

El-Rufai will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission pending the determination of his bail application.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory is facing legal proceedings over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office brought against him by the commission.

He arrived at the court around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, dressed in a light brown outfit and cap, amid tight security. Security presence was significantly increased around the court premises ahead of the hearing, with expectations of a large turnout of supporters and political stakeholders.

El-Rufai had, through his legal team, filed the bail application on Tuesday, seeking release pending the determination of the case.
