The Super Eagles returned to winning ways on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Iran national football team in an international friendly played in Antalya.
Nigeria started brightly and took an early lead just six minutes into the encounter, with Moses Simon cutting in from the left before firing past goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.
The three-time African champions dominated much of the first half but were unable to extend their advantage despite creating several scoring opportunities.
The second goal eventually came in the 61st minute when Akor Adams found the back of the net with a composed finish after being set up by Ademola Lookman, who replaced injured striker Victor Osimhen in the starting lineup.
Iran responded with a goal from Mehdi Taremi, who capitalised on a goalmouth scramble to reduce the deficit, but they were unable to find an equaliser as Nigeria held on for the win.
The match marked Nigeria’s first outing since securing a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Jordan national football team in their next game of the four-nation tournament on Tuesday.
