The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry in Akure following an investigation into a case of conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen property.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said the case was reported on February 27, 2026, by one Adeyemi Robert.
According to the complainant, he had attended a social event on February 14, 2026, at Sijuade Street, Akure, where he parked his Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number AH173WWD, custom colour, in front of the venue. He later discovered that the vehicle had been stolen by unknown persons upon returning from the event.
The statement noted that detectives immediately commenced an investigation, deploying intelligence gathering and other strategies aimed at recovering the stolen vehicle and apprehending those responsible.
“Through diligent investigative efforts, police operatives successfully traced the stolen vehicle to one Awolo Akingbade ‘M’, aged 40 years, who was found in possession of the car. He was immediately invited for questioning,” the statement read.
Further investigation reportedly revealed that the vehicle had been sold to him by the principal suspect, identified as Adeyemi David, who was subsequently arrested.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly stole the vehicle and disposed of it by selling it to the said buyer,” the police said.
The command confirmed that the stolen Toyota Camry has been recovered and registered as an exhibit, while both suspects have provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations. The suspects have since been charged in court following the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for what he described as diligence and professionalism in securing the recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and warned individuals engaged in criminal activities to desist. The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible, and actionable information to assist in crime prevention efforts.
