The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three siblings by a newly arrived tenant in Nwezenyi village, Igbeagu community, in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, identified as Favour, Obinna, and Kamso Okeoha, were reportedly abducted on Saturday while their parents were away from home.
The suspect, described as a woman who had recently rented an apartment in the compound, is alleged to have carried out the abduction shortly after moving in.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital. According to him, investigations are ongoing to locate and rescue the children.
“Investigation has been launched to locate and rescue the children,” Ukandu stated.
The incident has thrown the community into panic, with residents expressing shock over the development. Community sources said the suspect had only moved into the compound days before the children went missing.
One resident disclosed that the woman rented the apartment on Thursday and moved in the following day.
“She stayed just one day before the children were abducted on Saturday. We do not even know her identity,” the resident said.
Another neighbour described the suspect as friendly, adding that she painted her room and inscribed the words “One Love” on the wall, allegedly in a bid to create a positive impression among other tenants.
As of the time of filing this report, the parents of the abducted children were unavailable for comment, as sympathisers gathered at the compound awaiting their return.
The incident has heightened concerns over child abductions in the state. In February 2026, three children — a two-year-old boy and two girls aged four and two — were abducted from the same compound at Nkwegu, opposite the Nkwegu Military Cantonment gate in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
