The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three children by suspected kidnappers in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Nkwegu, opposite the Nkwegu Military Cantonment gate, within Abakaliki Local Government Area. The parents of the children reported the matter to the police shortly after the abduction.

Spokesman of the command, Joshua Ukandu, identified the victims as one boy aged two and two girls aged four and two. He said the police were alerted to the incident on February 7 and immediately commenced investigations.

“As of now, there has been no demand for ransom and no arrests have been made,” Ukandu said, adding that officers are working to rescue the children and apprehend those responsible.

The police command assured residents that a rescue operation is ongoing and urged the public to remain calm while providing any useful information that could aid the investigation.

The abduction has heightened concern among residents, particularly due to its proximity to a military facility, as security agencies intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the children.
