The President-General of Ogidi community in Idemili North, Anambra State, Ikwuka Okoye, also known as Anumili, has been killed by suspected cultists, police confirmed on Saturday.

The attack occurred late Friday at the School Field in Ogidi and reportedly claimed the life of another man, whose identity has yet to be confirmed. Eyewitnesses said the assault was allegedly carried out in revenge for the death of a rival cult leader who had recently been arrested and killed by local security operatives.

Residents expressed outrage over the killing, describing the deceased leader as duly elected and respected in the community. “Daredevil gunmen invaded our community last night. By the time they were done, the town’s President-General and a relation lay dead on the floor,” an eyewitness said.

The Anambra State Police Command, through spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said officers have taken over the scene and launched investigations. The police are working with eyewitness accounts and intelligence to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

“The command regrets the murder of the President-General and one other person. All efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice,” Ikenga said, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities.
