The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested seven suspected bandits and recovered five firearms with live ammunition in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, said the arrests followed credible intelligence received by the Command on January 28, indicating that five individuals had prohibited firearms.
He explained that operatives of the Anti–Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) acted swiftly on the information, leading to the arrest of Yusuf Aliyu Yusuf, Ahmed Umar, Abdullahi Muhammad, Ahmad Jazuli, and Muktar Bashir.
According to the police, items recovered during the operation include one English-made AK-47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines, two English-made Beretta pistols with a fully loaded magazine, and one locally fabricated Beretta pistol containing seven rounds of live ammunition.
The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to uncover other criminal networks linked to them.
In a related development, the Command recorded another breakthrough on January 29, 2025, following intelligence reports on the movement of suspected bandits within Zaria metropolis.
The Divisional Police Officer of Zaria City Division, leading a team of 47 Police Mobile Force operatives on stop-and-search duties, intercepted and arrested two suspects, Adamu Lawal and Abdulhadi Lawal, both from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The suspects were found in possession of one locally fabricated firearm and are said to be cooperating with investigators, providing information that could lead to the arrest of other accomplices still at large.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, praised their professionalism and prompt response to intelligence reports, reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for banditry and other criminal activities.
He assured residents that the Kaduna State Police Command would continue to sustain aggressive operations to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
