At least three police officers have been killed and two others injured following an ambush by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State.

The deceased officers were identified as ASP Abubakar Ibrahim, Inspector Umar Ahmad, and Sergeant Khailani Kabir. Those injured in the attack are Corporal Abdul’aziz Sani and Corporal Daniel Japhet.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at about 12:44 p.m. along Guga Village in Bakori Local Government Area, while the officers were on a routine anti-crime patrol.

Security sources said the police team was responding to reports of hoodlums operating in the area when they were ambushed. The attackers reportedly opened sporadic gunfire on the officers upon their arrival, leading to casualties.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. He said the injured officers were immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

DSP Sadiq added that investigations have commenced to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack, assuring that further updates would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
