The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, for allegedly killing his wife, Umaima Maidawa, aged 25, in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. He said the incident occurred on Monday at about 6:30 a.m.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly struck his wife with the wooden handle of a hoe, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death.
Usman explained that Mamuda fled the community after the incident but was later tracked and arrested following investigations and credible information provided by members of the public.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The police spokesperson urged residents to promptly report criminal incidents and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to enhance peace and security across the state.
