Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected terrorist logistics supplier and 21 accomplices in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspects were intercepted around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday by soldiers of the 112 Task Force Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at Checkpoint 2 in Mafa. According to counter-terrorism specialist Zagazola Makama, the group was transporting a large consignment of smoked fish believed to be linked to insurgent financing.
The main suspect, 40-year-old Ibrahim Bukar, was apprehended alongside the others while conveying 59 cartons and 28 sacks of smoked fish in two Isuzu trucks. A security source disclosed that preliminary interrogation indicated the fish was handed over to them in Laje village by insurgents.
Bukar reportedly confessed to supplying various items to the terrorists and was identified by hybrid forces who confirmed his long-standing role as a logistics provider while operating in the bush.
All 22 suspects, along with the recovered items, have been taken into custody for further investigation.
