Residents of the quiet Barki Abdullahi (BAD) farming settlement in Lafia Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, were thrown into panic on Saturday after suspected Fulani herdsmen launched a violent attack on farmers.
According to reports, the assailants ambushed farmers in their fields, inflicting severe injuries on several residents. A woman was critically injured, suffering the loss of her hand after it was severed with a machete, and was rushed to a nearby clinic for emergency treatment.
A community member, who identified himself as Esla, described the attack as “heartbreaking and unprovoked,” and expressed concern over escalating fear in the area. He called on security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend the attackers and prevent further violence.
Esla also appealed to the government to deploy security personnel to safeguard lives and property, restore calm, and reassure residents.
Authorities have yet to state the incident.
