Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has firmly distanced himself from the decision to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other top figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such actions could further destabilise the already troubled opposition party.
In a statement on Saturday, Fintiri made it clear that he played no role in the push to remove Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. He described the expulsion move as unhealthy for a party still grappling with deep internal divisions.
“I wish to categorically state that I dissociate myself from the position of expelling the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Gov. Wike, from the PDP,” Fintiri said. “I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be party to any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis.”
The governor said his stance is driven by the need to safeguard peace, unity, and stability within the PDP, which has suffered a series of internal disputes and electoral setbacks since the 2023 general elections.
“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration,” he stated. “Peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party.”
Fintiri urged party leaders to prioritise healing and reconciliation rather than widening existing divisions, calling for renewed dialogue and collective efforts to rebuild trust among members.
“I am committed to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability, and progress within the PDP,” he added. “My position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal.”
The statement comes amid heightened tensions at the PDP national convention, where rival factions are pushing competing agendas over the party’s future direction.
