Tensions between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, appear to have eased as the Kogi lawmaker has extended an official invitation to Akpabio to attend a project commissioning ceremony in her senatorial district.
The invitation, which also includes all members of the Senate, was conveyed in a personally signed letter from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and read by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session. The event is slated for Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State, as part of activities marking her second anniversary in the Senate.
“In marking my second anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for project commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter read.
According to the letter, the meeting point for the delegation will be Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, while Senators traveling by air may land at the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding to the venue by road.
After reading the invitation, Senate President Akpabio publicly congratulated Akpoti-Uduaghan in advance, saying, “Congratulations in advance.”
The move is seen as a major step toward reconciliation following a bitter dispute between the two lawmakers earlier in the year. The rift, which stemmed from a disagreement over seat reallocation in the Senate, led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension on March 6.
Since her reinstatement on September 24, the Kogi senator has gradually resumed full legislative activities, including participating in debates and contributing to motions such as the additional prayers on the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Her latest gesture, however, marks the most visible sign yet of a thaw in relations with the Senate leadership.
