MTN Nigeria has announced plans to carry out a scheduled network maintenance exercise on Saturday, October 25, 2025, which will temporarily affect connectivity across parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano States.

According to the telecom company, the maintenance window will run from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., during which services will be disrupted on 101 network sites across 15 Local Government Areas in the three states.

MTN explained that the exercise is part of an ongoing effort to enhance service reliability and strengthen its fibre infrastructure in northern Nigeria. The work involves a fibre cutover on a newly relocated cable segment between AFCOT and Bawo Village—replacing damaged spans and reducing multiple joints that have previously affected network performance and stability.

The affected areas include Nasarawa LGA in Kano State; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa State; as well as Askira/Uba and Shani in Borno State.

During the two-hour maintenance window, services on 2G, 3G, 4G, and certain enterprise connections will be unavailable due to the linear and unprotected nature of the fibre route.

MTN noted that the intervention builds on a network restoration exercise conducted in August 2025 along the same AFCOT–Bawo route, adding that this next phase is a more comprehensive upgrade aimed at eliminating long-term faults and ensuring more stable connectivity.

While acknowledging the potential inconvenience to customers, the company assured that the maintenance is necessary for long-term network improvement. “MTN regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates customers’ understanding,” the statement read.

The announcement follows a series of fibre-related network outages across Nigeria. In August, MTN and 9mobile suffered simultaneous fibre cuts in Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara, leading to widespread service disruptions.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has raised concerns over increasing fibre cuts nationwide, with operators including MTN, Airtel, and 9mobile reportedly recording an average of 1,100 incidents weekly. The Commission has since launched a coordinated response involving enforcement, public sensitisation, and collaboration with security agencies to protect telecom infrastructure designated as Critical National Information Infrastructure under the Cybersecurity Act..
