The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Abi Baragon, in connection with a viral video showing a woman crying for help after allegedly being assaulted by him.

According to the Command, the incident occurred on June 20, 2025, and had been under investigation following public outrage on social media.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said operatives from the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, launched a swift investigation using intelligence-led policing and technical support.

She disclosed that the suspect was arrested on October 13, 2025, after weeks of discreet tracking and evidence gathering.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the assault allegedly stemmed from the victim’s refusal to accept Baragon’s marriage proposal after discovering that he was already married with four children.

Iringe-Koko added: “The suspect denied the allegations, but during further interrogation, he voluntarily confessed to using bottles and stabbing the victim. The suspect is currently in custody, while the victim is receiving medical treatment. A thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel all circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their professionalism and thanked members of the public for providing credible information that led to the suspect’s arrest.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the state, warning that “there is no hiding place for the wicked.”

The police confirmed that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
