There was mild drama at an Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday when a woman, identified as Mulikat Yusuf, slumped shortly after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, insisted on ending their marriage.

The incident occurred during a divorce hearing in which Abdulganiyu told the court that he was no longer interested in continuing the union.

Yusuf, however, pleaded with the court to save her marriage, saying she had nowhere else to go after having six children with her husband.

Witnesses said the woman appeared distraught and was deep in thought as she walked out of the courtroom after hearing her husband’s submission. Moments later, she reportedly slumped.

Court officials and sympathisers quickly rushed to her aid and revived her by pouring water on her.

Presiding Judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, urged the woman to remain calm and advised both parties to explore all avenues for reconciliation before the next hearing.

The matter was adjourned until December 10 for a report on possible settlement or continuation of the hearing.
