At least one person was feared killed on Saturday in Warri, Delta State, following the escalation of another crisis between tribal groups laying claim to the city.
It was gathered that the victim was an Urhobo indigene, who was butchered to death by suspected rival tribal group.
The victim, it was learnt, was a former leader of the youth group in the Odion area of the city.
“The incident happened at Odion Road area of Warri South (metropolis) on Saturday,” one source familiar with the incident told our reporter.
Our source said trouble started when Urhobo youths, suspected to be from Agbassa danced through the troubled Odion area, accompanied by masquerades.
“The Itsekiri people chased them away, and this led to a protest by the group, who queried the action of their Itsekiri counterparts,” another source said.
The State Police Command and government were yet to comment on the incident at the time of this report.
However, the state governor, Mr Sheriff Oborevweri, had been appealing to the various factions involved in the crisis to sheathe their swords to pave the way for peace and development
