The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Ishiaku Bukar, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl in Maiduwa Village, Fika Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the suspect was apprehended by operatives from the Fika Divisional Headquarters on September 13, 2025, following a distress call from the victim’s guardian.
According to the statement, Bukar lured the girl to his farm under the guise of offering assistance with a promised reward, but instead assaulted her.
“On September 13, 2025, at about 0700hrs, following a distress call from the guardian of an 11-year-old female survivor from Maiduwa Village, Fika LGA, operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters promptly apprehended one Ishiaku Bukar, 22 years, of the same address,” the statement said.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. Meanwhile, the police confirmed that medical evaluation and treatment of the survivor had commenced, while the investigation into the case is ongoing.
The Command expressed concern over the rising cases of harassment and abuse against women and children engaged as farm labourers, warning that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, also condemned the incident and called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals who exploit farming activities to target women and children.
“Say no to rape; protect women and children,” he said.
