Manchester City are set to complete the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain in a €35 million ($41 million) deal, with the move expected to be confirmed on deadline day.
City’s pursuit of the 26-year-old comes after a shaky start from summer recruit James Trafford, who has been trusted in goal for all three Premier League matches so far but has yet to cement his place. Donnarumma’s arrival is expected to provide both stability and competition in Guardiola’s squad.
At PSG, Donnarumma’s future had been uncertain since the summer. Despite being instrumental in last season’s Champions League triumph, he was told he was no longer part of the club’s long-term plans. Luis Enrique’s decision to make new signing Lucas Chevalier his first-choice goalkeeper left the Italian seeking an exit.
Earlier speculation linked Donnarumma’s move to City with a possible departure for Ederson, but reports now suggest the Italian will join regardless of the Brazilian’s future.
For Donnarumma, the transfer marks a fresh chapter after four seasons in Paris, while for City, it represents a bold reinforcement of their goalkeeping options on the final day of the market.
