Nigerian production powerhouse Five 2 Media Entertainment has made a striking return to the international stage with Remi X Nneoma—a powerful new drama inspired by the Biblical story of Ruth and Naomi.
Directed by Lyndsey Efejuku, the film delves into themes of womanhood, grief, resilience, and the bonds between generations. Speaking on Thursday in Lagos, Efejuku described the project as a deeply emotional and layered narrative.
“This film is about more than survival; it’s about reinvention. Remi X Nneoma offers rare emotional honesty—both intimate and grand in scope,” Efejuku said.
Set in Ikwerre, the story follows Nneoma and her daughter-in-law Remi, who choose to remain together after suffering a shared loss. As they navigate the harsh realities of grief, widowhood, and societal expectations, their relationship becomes a powerful source of healing and transformation.
The film stars Bisola Aiyeola as Remi and Liz Benson-Ameye as Nneoma, with Uche Montana and Ifeanyi Kalu in pivotal roles. The supporting cast includes industry veterans such as Eucharia Anunobi, Buchi Franklin, Martha Ehinome, Kunle Coker, Kelechi Udegbe, and Tina Mba.
Screenwriters Priye Diri and Adelarin Awotedu breathe new life into the ancient tale, reimagining it through a modern Nigerian lens—balancing intimacy with cultural relevance and emotional resonance.
Central to the narrative is Remi, a young widow whose quiet strength becomes a symbol of resilience. Aiyeola reflects on the experience of portraying her:
“Remi is every woman rebuilding herself from scratch. Her quiet persistence carries strength. Playing her was unforgettable and deeply personal for me.”
Producer Bikiya Graham-Douglas emphasized the film’s tribute to women’s legacy and love passed across generations.
“This story challenges norms while honoring courage and transformation at the heart of female resilience,” she said.
With Remi X Nneoma, Five 2 Media continues its legacy of producing meaningful stories that resonate both locally and globally—anchored in culture, emotion, and human connection.
