The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested multiple suspects and recovered four stolen vehicles in separate operations across the country.
This development follows a complaint filed on July 23 at the Jabi Police Division by one Mrs. Okanemhen, who reported that her driver, Abubakar Nuhu from Magana Village in Toro LGA, Bauchi State, absconded with her trailer (registration number GWA 40 XC) after delivering cement to a factory in Obajana, Kogi State.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the suspect removed three tracking devices from the trailer, unaware of a hidden fourth tracker. This allowed police operatives to trace the vehicle to Kaduna State, where Nuhu was arrested.
Further investigation revealed that the trailer’s identification markings had been painted over with black paint to avoid detection. The suspect is currently in custody, while efforts are underway to apprehend his accomplices.
In a separate operation, personnel from the Anti-Car Theft Section and Scorpion Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department recovered three other vehicles stolen from various parts of the FCT. These include: A white Toyota Hilux (reg. no. YAB 891 EL), recovered intact, an ash-coloured Toyota Camry, and a Toyota Corolla (bank model).
The Camry and Corolla had already been dismantled and sold as scrap.
Two suspects, Ikechukwu Iwueze and his accomplice, Amobi (an ex-convict), were arrested for receiving and reselling parts from the stolen vehicles. Both have confessed and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, advised residents to install reliable vehicle tracking systems and conduct thorough background checks on employees, especially those in sensitive roles.
