Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have continued to make significant progress in their mission to restore peace and security across Benue State, successfully recovering arms, dismantling criminal camps, and neutralizing bandits in a series of clearance operations over the weekend.
On August 2, 2025, during a daring patrol in Tse Adudu, Gbanga/Tongo Council Ward, OPWS forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition believed to have been abandoned by fleeing armed herdsmen responsible for repeated farmland invasions in Akpiti village.
The operation was prompted by credible intelligence from residents reporting illegal grazing activities. Upon arrival, the troops were met with fleeing herders who abandoned their cattle and escaped into nearby bushes.
A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of: One AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. These items were concealed in a blanket inside a makeshift hut.
Force Commander Major General Moses Gara commended the troops for their professionalism and swift action, and praised the community for providing vital intelligence. He reaffirmed OPWS’s commitment to restoring peace, enhancing food security, and promoting economic stability, while urging continued cooperation between civilians and security forces.
