Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has urged fellow Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen to consider a move to Saudi Arabia, citing financial security and long-term career flexibility as key reasons.
In a candid statement, Ighalo — who enjoyed a lucrative stint in the Chinese Super League before returning to Europe to play for Manchester United — emphasized that Osimhen’s age and talent give him the freedom to explore new opportunities without jeopardizing his career in Europe.
“My advice to Osimhen is to go to Saudi Arabia. Victor should play in Saudi Arabia for two years, earn enough money, and then return to Europe,” Ighalo said.
The former Manchester United striker pointed to his career trajectory, playing in China well into his late 20s before making a high-profile return to European football at age 30.
“Osimhen is only 26 years old. If he plays in Saudi Arabia for two years, he’ll be 28 and can still return to Europe to play for another five years if he wants to.
“He must remember that big players like Ronaldo and Messi are not Africans; their money is theirs to spend. But in Africa, our money often doesn’t belong to us alone—many people expect to share in our earnings.”
