At least 27 people, including men and women, have reportedly been killed in a fresh attack by gunmen in Bindi-Jebbu, a village in the Tahoss community of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Residents said the attack took place on Monday, leaving many others injured. The wounded were taken to hospitals, including the Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau Hospital.

Chairman of Riyom LGA, Bature Shuwa, confirmed the incident but said he could not yet provide an exact casualty figure, as he was en route to the affected community.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Dalyop Solomon, also confirmed the killings. He said the attackers, suspected to be armed Fulani herders, stormed the village, shooting indiscriminately and setting several homes on fire.

“Twenty-seven people were killed and many others injured. The bodies have been taken to various hospitals ahead of their burial,” Solomon stated.

As of press time, security agencies, including Operation Safe Haven and the Plateau State Police Command, had not issued any official statement. Attempts to reach their spokespersons—Major Samson Zhakom and DSP Alabo Alfred—were unsuccessful.

The attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, where rural communities have repeatedly come under violent attacks.

Just last week, the Plateau State Government recruited 150 agro-rangers as part of renewed efforts to bolster security across the state.
