In the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), more than 1.5 million of the 1,955,069 candidates scored below 200, according to statistical data released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday.

The analysis revealed that only 420,415 candidates achieved scores above 200 in this year’s exam. Overall, 75 percent of test-takers scored below 200, while fewer than 1 percent managed to score above 300.

JAMB also noted that 40,247 underage candidates were granted permission to participate in the exam to showcase their exceptional abilities. However, just 467 of them (1.16%) met the UTME’s benchmark for exceptional performance. Their results in the remaining three stages of the evaluation are still pending.
