A Chief Magistrate Court in the Wuse Zone 2 area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has sent one ‘Professor’ Jide Josiah Jisos to six months in jail for impersonation during a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UMTE.
The Professor was arrested in an apparent bid to aid his daughter (names withheld) during the examination held in 2019.
Court documents showed that Chief Magistrate Justice Folashade Oyekan handed down the sentence last weekend, but also gave ‘Prof’ Jisos the option of a N100,000 fine.
It was gathered that Jisos was apprehended by officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) while monitoring the UTME at Brix Academy in Abuja.
Dr Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, said Jisos falsely identified himself as a representative of a non-governmental organization (NGO) deployed to the centre to oversee the examination.
He was arrested and handed to security personnel for further investigation after he failed to provide satisfactory answers to the JAMB officials.
During interrogation, Jisos admitted that he had no affiliation with any NGO and entered the examination hall to assist his daughter in taking the UTME.
In addition to the six-month prison sentence, he was given the option to pay a fine of N100,000.
