Fubara Talks Tough, Says LG Election is Last Fight

Governor Fubara in a fiery, unscripted speech at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission’s Secretariat in Port Harcourt, at about 2 AM on Friday, described the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun as ‘very wicked and fraudulent‘

Fubara accuses IGP Egbetokun of working with Wike to destabilise state

EXCERPT: We came here this morning we heard that what they called themselves the Nigerian Police are coming to take over the premises of RSIEC. I had to come myself to find out why such a thing would happen. What I heard was that one DCO Operation brought them (police) here to withdraw policemen that are already here protecting this place that new officers will take over the place.

I have to say this on a very strong note that we have been taking enough nonsense from this institution. Everybody is aware of the court judgment and even the judgment or ruling did it specify anywhere that the election should not hold? It said don’t give voters register; what are we doing with it? Police don’t provide security, is it the same thing as blocking the election.

I don’t know what the relationship between the inspector general of police and one person who claims he has so much power in this state. It is beginning to go beyond the normal professional relationship. The government wrote a letter with the judgment that we have to him and what he is acting on is the judgment he got from the federal high court.

Even at that, did the judgment say that election should be barred? The judge that gave that fraudulent judgment did he say that no election? Rather he technically said don’t provide, don’t provide. We don’t need your security, we will provide our own security. After all it happened in Anambra.

Whatever you want to do, do it the election will hold, results will be declared and people would be sworn in.

What kind of country is this? When it comes to the issue of Rivers state it becomes different. You are not ashamed of yourself, the Inspector General of Police. Enough is enough. This (RSIEC) is my property and you do not have any power to bar me from it. Try it and your history of a very wicked and fraudulent IGP of police will include shooting Fubara.
