Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season after an outstanding campaign for Manchester United.

The Portugal midfielder added another major individual honour to his collection after recently being crowned the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year.

Fernandes matched the Premier League record for most assists in a single season after registering his 20th assist during United’s clash against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

The 31-year-old also scored eight goals in 37 league appearances, helping Manchester United finish third in the table and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Fernandes created 132 chances in the Premier League this season, the highest by any player in the division and 43 more than second-placed Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool F.C..

He becomes the first Manchester United player to win the award since former defender Nemanja Vidic claimed the honour in 2011.

The winner of the award was determined through a combination of public votes and selections from a panel of football experts.
