A woman, Amarachi Promise Esomonu, has called for justice after losing her three children in a tragic accident that occurred in the Ogbunabali area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident reportedly happened on May 15 when a yet-to-be-identified man was allegedly teaching his girlfriend how to drive. The woman, who was said to be behind the wheel, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the family’s residence, killing the three children, all toddlers.
A resident of the area, who spoke anonymously, said the children, aged 10, four, and three, were inside the house when the accident occurred.
According to the source, the young woman was learning how to drive when people suddenly began shouting moments before the vehicle crashed into the building.
“That was how her three children lost their lives. It is very painful. The mother has been crying uncontrollably because the children were all in school,” the resident said.
In a viral video circulating online, the distraught mother was seen weeping bitterly as she demanded justice for her children.
Mrs Esomonu lamented that those allegedly responsible for the tragedy had shown little concern following the incident, adding that the memory of her children continues to haunt her daily.
“Every day I wake up in the morning and remember them. Every day, my alarm rings, but there are no children for me to prepare for school again.
“Their killers are comfortable. They are not saying anything,” she said amid tears.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
In a statement, the police command described the incident as tragic and said it had generated widespread grief and concern across the state.
The Commissioner of Police extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that justice would be served.
“The Rivers State Police Command is deeply saddened by the tragic incident, which reportedly claimed the lives of three children from the same family. The unfortunate development has generated widespread grief and concern within the state,” the statement read.
