Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have killed four suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists during ongoing counter-insurgency operations across Borno State.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Sani Uba, who said the operations were conducted under Operation DESERT SANITY V as part of intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist activities in the region.
According to the statement, troops, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, engaged terrorists moving from Yale towards the Sambisa Forest axis, killing four insurgents during the encounter.
The military said troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, alongside food items believed to be part of the terrorists’ logistics supply chain, adding that all personnel returned safely to base without casualties.
It added that sustained military offensives along strategic routes, including Damboa–Maiduguri, Damboa–Gwoza, Goniri axis, and other known infiltration corridors, had continued to restrict the movement and operational capabilities of insurgents in the area.
In a related operation, troops stationed at Kanama arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during a stop-and-search exercise. The suspects were reportedly found with clothing materials and other personal effects believed to be linked to terrorist logistics support.
Preliminary investigations, according to the military, also uncovered digital materials suggesting possible links to terrorist networks, while the suspects remain in custody for further interrogation.
The statement further revealed that a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP member voluntarily surrendered to troops at a checkpoint in Kukawa. The individual reportedly claimed he had been abducted earlier in the year and forced to join the terrorist group, and is currently undergoing profiling and investigation.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring lasting peace, security, and economic stability in the North-East, while urging residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
The military high command also commended the troops for their resilience and charged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations in the region.
