President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos in the early hours of Friday following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, marking what he described as a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between both nations.

The President and his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, touched down at about 1:15 a.m. at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. They were received by top government officials and party leaders, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside other stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress.

According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President is scheduled to join Muslim faithful later on Friday for Eid al-Fitr prayers at Dodan Barracks.

In his Sallah message, Tinubu urged Nigerian Muslims to uphold the enduring values of Ramadan, emphasizing piety, empathy, unity, and perseverance.

“We have a lot to draw from the noble lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness, and compassion beyond this period,” he said.

Before returning home, Tinubu held bilateral talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where both countries agreed on a £746 million deal to refurbish two major ports in Lagos. Discussions also focused on trade, the economy, climate change, counter-terrorism, and other global challenges.

Describing the trip as “very thrilling and significant,” Tinubu noted that it was the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, underscoring its importance in deepening institutional and economic ties.

At Windsor Castle, the President and First Lady were hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The royal engagement featured a ceremonial reception, inspection of a guard of honour, and a 42-gun salute.

“Our two nations share a vision of progress and resilience. Today, we continue that journey, committed to building a future rooted in partnership, mutual respect, and common values,” Tinubu said during the engagement.

The visit also included meetings with members of the Nigerian diaspora and business leaders, as well as the signing of agreements covering trade, investment, defence, cultural cooperation, and energy transition.
