The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected car snatcher in Uyo and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla with registration number DKA-337 CB.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the arrest followed a distress call received at about 11:30 p.m. on January 20, 2026, from a Bolt driver who was reportedly robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint.
DSP John said operatives who responded to the scene discovered that the suspects had already fled with the car. However, through prompt intelligence gathering, the stolen vehicle was traced to Nkwot Ikono village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that one suspect, identified as Sunday Okon, a male from Nna Enin village in Uruan Local Government Area, was arrested in possession of the stolen vehicle. According to the police spokesperson, the suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations have been intensified to track down other members of the gang and recover their operational weapons.
Commending the swift response and professionalism of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and safeguarding lives and property across Akwa Ibom State.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and useful information to the police.
