Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing an elderly woman and abducting three residents during a late-night raid on Saturday.
The assailants reportedly arrived on motorcycles and parked at the outskirts of the quiet farming community before advancing on foot to avoid detection. Many residents were asleep when the attackers struck, throwing the village into panic.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said security operatives had been deployed to track down the perpetrators.
“We are doing everything possible to rescue the kidnapped victims and restore calm to the area,” Kiyawa said.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the elderly woman was shot after pleading with the gunmen not to abduct her son, who was eventually taken away. The attackers also reportedly invaded another home, where they abducted two women, including the ward councillor’s sister-in-law.
As of the time of filing this report, security personnel were said to be combing nearby forests in search of the victims and their captors.
